Tomoko's 2012 Art Classes

 

Mokuhanga: Japanese Woodblock

This workshop introduces a traditional Japanese woodblock printing process, Ukiyo-E technique. Participants learn to carve the woodblock, use Japanese carving tools, and print with water-based ink on Japanese paper. To sign up, visit Kala Art Institute or Civic Arts Education.

 

Reduction Printing

Abe's reduction print created in Tomoko's CCA class Coming in summer!
Participants will learn how to create multi-colored prints with the reduction printing method, which uses only one woodblock, instead of the several blocks ordinarily used for color printing. 

 

Collagraph

Collagraph is an amazingly versatile printmaking process, based on the construction of a collaged matrix to provide a printable plate. A wide range of materials and textured surfaces such as fabric, leaves, sand, and other found materials can be used in the plate-making process. To sign up, visit Kala Art Institute.

 

Silk Painting

This course introduces basic techniques for painting on silk – the watercolor technique (painting with dyes) and the French serti technique (drawing a design with water-based resist called gutta). January 18, 25, February 1, 8, 15, 22: Wednesdays 6:30pm - 9:30pm / $127 (Piedmont Adult School)
Learn to create dynamic compositions with strong values, color harmony and movement as we interpret still life, landscape and the figure. Demonstrations of mixing on the paper with fused/broken color, dropping/spattering color, wet on wet and more loose techniques. Development of individual styles encouraged. All levels are welcome.
